Summer
English
Leo and the Gorgon’s Curse

We will be exploring Greek mythology in Leo and the Gorgon’s Curse and creating a diary entry.
101 Dalmatians

We will also explore the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. We will be writing an explanation text, complaint letter and a narrative which is a sequel.
Maths
In Maths we will be covering decimals, money including comparing money amounts and being able to solve problems with this. In time we will convert between analogue and digital times. We will also be looking at different shapes like identifying angles and comparing and ordering angles. Our last units of Maths include statistics and coordinates on a graph.
In Year 4, we work really hard towards learning all of our times tables reading for our end of year MTC. Here are some games and songs you can use at home:

Foundation Subjects

Our Science topics will be sound and states of matter
In History, we will be continuing to learn all about the Ancient Mayans and then learn about the history sportsmanship.
During our Art lessons, we will be completing our painting topic, focusing on Keith Haring and then we will be moving onto printing, focusing on Cath Kidston
In RE we will be looking at Christianity, looking at when Jesus left and what the impact of the Pentecost was.
Our French lessons will be looking at food and weather.
In PSHE, we are learning about our citizenship and transitions and wellbeing.
Our Computing sessions will be exploring spreadsheets and effective searching as part of our online safety.
During PE, we will be continuing to learn dance skills and improve our striking and fielding skills and athletics
Spring
English
How to Train Your Dragon- Cressida Cowell

We will be diving into the exciting world of young Hiccup as he embarks on his dragon-training journey in the book How to Train Your Dragon.
Using the book as our stimulus, we will first write a job application letter to the dragon boss, Mr. Firebreather, applying to become a dragon trainer. Then, we will write a non-chronological report about the different types of dragons Hiccup might encounter on his journey.
Maths

In Maths, we will be continuing to develop our understanding of multiplication and division, length and perimeter, fractions and decimals

Our first Science topic will be Electricity
In Geography we will be looking at Volcanoes, especially The Ring of Fire in South America
In History, we will be learning all about the Ancient Mayans
During our Art lessons, we will exploring collage and focusing on David Wightman. Then we will be painting and focusing on Keith Haring.
In RE we will be looking at Christianity.
Our French lessons will include clothing and the weather.
In PSHE, we are learning about health and wellbeing and our changing bodies.
Our Computing sessions will be exploring the world of coding and spreadsheets.
During PE, we will be refining our throwing and catching skills as well as developing our balance, agility and coordination.


Autumn
English
Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears

In English, we will start by investigating the wonders of the book Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears by Emily Gravetts. It is a picture book containing surprise flaps and fold outs, and lots of little details. The pictures follow the fears of a small mouse- from loud noises and the dark, to being sucked down the plughole.
Using the book as our stimulus, we will be exploring emotions and creating a descriptive account of what it feels like to be scared.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We will then start exploring the adventures of young Charlie Bucket inside the chocolate factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Using the book as our stimulus, we will be writing a set of instructions to find an infamous Golden Ticket and then we will write a spin-off scene with a focus on using speech.
Maths

In Maths, we will be continuing to develop our understanding of place value, working with numbers up to 10,000, as well as exploring addition and subtraction skills later on this term.

Our first Science topic will be animals including humans.
In Geography we will be looking at mountains, comparing them in the UK and in Europe. Our music lessons link to this topic.
In History, we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks.
During our Art lessons, we will be drawing our own self-portraits and we will be looking at the artist Emily Gravett
In RE we will be looking at Hinduism, what that means and what they do.
Our French lessons will include French food, ordering food from a restaurant, Euros and shopping in a supermarket.
In PSHE, we are learning about relationships, friends and family.
Our Computing sessions will be exploring online safety such as how to search online and understanding appropriate online behaviours.
During PE, we will be refining our passing skills in Football and practicing our dancing skills.
